Ship a solo-made roguelite to Steam Early Access with an AI coding agent

AI researcher Przemek Chojecki used Claude Code with the Godot engine to build Catvivors, a cat-themed survivors-style auto-battler, and released it on Steam Early Access. He describes about two weeks to a fun first level and a few more weeks for content and store setup.

How to do it

  1. Write a Markdown blueprint of the game, engine and core mechanics
  2. Have the agent build a rough prototype with placeholder sprites
  3. Playtest yourself and iterate on balance and movement
  4. Add levels, weapons and a shop once the core loop is fun
  5. Make platform builds and set up the Steam store page

The prompt

Read GAME.md, which describes a survivors-style auto-battler. Create a Godot 4 project with one level: the player moves with WASD, weapons fire automatically, enemies spawn in growing waves, and enemies drop XP gems. Use colored rectangles as placeholder sprites. Tell me which numbers to change to tune difficulty.
